Komish Broit or Mandl Brot are the two names for almond cookie. The Yiddish name depends on which dialect of Yiddish you speak. These cookies resemble Italian cantucci (American name - biscotti) but they are much softer and quite irresistible.
BT's Family Komish Broit
Ingredients:
3 eggs
1 cup (225 grams) sugar
1 cup (240 ml) vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups (450 grams) finely chopped almonds
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 level teaspoons baking powder
3 cups (450 grams) flour
Sugar and cinnamon for dipping
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 F. (170 C.)
Beat eggs
Add sugar and salt and beat well before adding oil and vanilla
Fold in nuts
Add flour and baking powder
Shape into 3 rolls
Bake approximately 20 minutes
Remove rolls but leave oven on
Move rolls to cutting board and slice on a diagonal while still warm
Add sugar and cinnamon to a shallow bowl (3 measures sugar to 1 cinnamon)
Dip each slice (both sides) in sugar/cinnamon and place on cookie sheet
Return to the oven
Turn off heat
Let dry
