On occasion my dear friend Teresa and her family and in-laws would join us for Shabbat dinner. We lovingly joked about how everything in the meal seemed to be a shade of brown. As years went on we began to refer to Shabbat dinner as The Brown Meal.

 

It is true. The Brown Meal is monochromatic, but exceptionally tasty. The Brown Meal is the industry standard for Ashkenazi Shabbat cuisine. Includes brisket, chopped liver, kasha varnishkes, tzimmes, eggplant salad, noodle and potato kiegel (kugel), honey cake and much more.
